It's hard for me to remember Lyall even though at 40 I am old enough. Most of his tenure was when I was a kid so it was just blind devotion.
Even though he fucks me off Redknapp had his moments. I watched the Metz away game in a pub in Glasgow, having had to beg them to show the game on one screen I proceeded to get absolutely hammered and vocal, by the end of the match half of the pub was watching with me and screaming at the TV. Not sure if it was my converting them to the cause or a fear of an equaliser meaning extra time and another 30 minutes of the piss artist in the corner :o)
If Bilic stays and keeps going the way he's going he will be up there.
Pardew was good for a season and the fight with Wenger.

Odd choice but Gianfranco Zolas first season was my most enjoyable time supporting West Ham.
Great football that season and some really memorable away days.
Yet another false dawn though.

I'm loving the love for John Lyall on this thread, one of own but sadly West Ham (until very recently) treated their club legends like shit.
Looking back it was so odd not to see him on the touchline after they sacked him & West Ham went stale for me until Bonds took over then Redknapp.
I hope Bilic stays for many years and becomes a Lyall type figure at the club, it's what we've lacked for many years. Someone the club is about, players won't stay these days we know that but it would be nice to somewhat go back to the Lyall days.

he managed them when they started to implode mate, o'leary was sacked after falling out with ridsdale when rio was sold, el tel replaced him for a bit, it then went very tits up very quick from there.
